The Institute of Petroleum and Energy Studies (formerly Institute of Petroleum Studies) was established in 2003 in a unique collaboration between the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, the French Petroleum Institute or Institut français du pétrole (IFP), France, and the NNPC/Total E&P Nigeria Limited (now TotalEnergies) Joint Venture to meet the needs of the petroleum industry through a commitment to excellence in training, applied research, continuing education and capacity development.
Our goal is to equip our graduates with a broad array of intellectual and technical competencies to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry. I am proud to note that our graduates are currently making their marks in the industry within and outside Nigeria.
This is important to us because, through the success of our graduates we strive to attain our vision to become the foremost International Centre of Excellence in Petroleum Geosciences & Technology, Petroleum Economics & Management as well as Petroleum Policy & Strategic Studies.
In collaboration with industry experts, our faculty is active in ongoing research and are committed to providing the training and a conducive learning environment to help you make the most of the education on offer here at the Institute. The IPES welcomes students from all over the world, so no matter your journey – you will discover and prepare for an exciting and rewarding future.
